The Stormgate Community Update – Now Live!
By Harrison “Gobsmack” King
Hey everyone,
We’re finally here.
After six months of building, testing, and iterating with an incredible group of community members, the Stormgate Community Update has officially left the PTR and is now live for all players.
This is the biggest update to Versus we’ve ever released. It was built with the community, and in many cases, directly by the community.
A Patch Built Together
From the beginning, this project has been a collaboration.
Our community implementation team helped bring many of the design and balance changes into the game. Using the editor tools and rapid iteration in custom maps, they worked closely with us to prototype, refine, and ship updates across nearly every unit.
We also leaned on the expertise and feedback of hundreds of playtesters. Some of the community’s best map makers contributed dozens of new maps. Content creators helped spread the word and put together promotional material. Players from around the world helped localize the update into their languages.
Meanwhile, our team at Frost Giant focused on getting everything into a polished, shippable state. This included engineering work, UI improvements, audio and visual polish, backend support, and making sure everything runs smoothly in a live environment.
The end result is something we couldn’t have achieved on our own.
What’s New
This update touches almost every part of Versus. If you played on the PTR, you’ve seen how much has changed. If you’re jumping in fresh, here’s a quick overview:
- 4 new units for the Infernal and Celestial factions
- Ranked 2v2 ladder (go grab a teammate)
- Over 40 new and updated maps, designed by the community
- Full release of the Map Editor, Data Editor, and Trigger Editor
- Major balance pass affecting nearly every unit
- Changes to the tech tree, economy, and upgrades
- New Arcade-style experiences created by community members
- Visual, audio, and quality-of-life improvements
- A long list of bug fixes and polish updates
There are also a lot of smaller improvements that add up. These include better worker behavior, smoother unit control, improved responsiveness, and clearer visual and audio feedback in fights.
You can view a video produced by community member BandanaT that covers all the balance changes.
Creation Tools Are Fully Open
One of the biggest milestones in this update is the full release of the Map Editor, Data Editor, and Trigger Editor to all players by default.
You no longer need cheat codes or JSON workarounds to build custom modes. Everything can be done in-game using our UI tools.
If you’ve been waiting to create something, whether maps, modes, experiments, or even full games, you now have access to the same tools we’ve been using internally and alongside the community team.
We’ve already started bringing community-created experiences into the game, and we’re excited to see what you make next.

Thank You
This update wouldn’t exist without the people who showed up, put in the time, and helped make Stormgate better.
To our community implementers, map makers, playtesters, tournament organizers, and everyone who shared feedback along the way, thank you.
This was a massive effort, and it shows.
